چکیده
Changes in the nucleon shape are investigated by letting the nucleon deform under the strong interactions with another nucleon. The parameters of the axial deformations are obtained by minimizing the static energy of the two nucleon system at each internucleon distance R. It is shown that the intrinsic quadrupole moment of the interacting proton, Qp, is about 0.02fm at distances near R ∼ 1.25 fm. The question whether there is a pion transparency in 500 MeV C(π, π ′ ) scatterings is studied using a semiclassical, hadronic transport model. The double differential cross sections of this reaction measured at LAMPF can be largely accounted for, if one uses energy-dependent, anisotropic angular distributions which are fitted to pion-nucleon scattering data for the decay of ∆(1232) and N(1440)...

Virtual Compton scattering off the nucleon has been studied in the one–loop approximation of the linear sigma model. The three generalized scalar polarizabilities of the nucleon have been calculated and compared with the existing theoretical predictions. In particular, we find that only two of the three scalar polarizabilities are independent observables.

The study of spherical-deformed ground–state phase transitions in finite nuclei as a function of N and Z is hindered by the discrete values of the nucleon number. A resolution of the integer nucleon number problem, and evidence relating to phase transitions in finite nuclei, are discussed from the experimental point of view and interpreted within the framework of the interacting boson model.

A detailed derivation of the collisional widths of collective vibrations is presented in both quantal and semi-classical frameworks by considering the linearized limits of the extended TDHF and the BUU model with a non-Markovian binary collision term. Damping widths of giant dipole and giant quadrupole excitations are calculated by employing an effective Skyrme force, and the results are compar...

We report variational calculations of symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron matter, using the new Argonne v18 two-nucleon and Urbana IX threenucleon interactions. At the equilibrium density of 0.16 fm−3 the two-nucleon densities in symmetric nuclear matter are found to exhibit a short-range spinisospin structure similar to that found in light nuclei. We also find that both symmetric nuclear...
